White Noise

How Soundwell generates white noise and shapes it with Brightness and Resonance.

Definition#

White noise is a random signal with equal power in frequency bands of the same width. Its spectrum remains level as frequency rises.

How Soundwell generates it#

Soundwell uses a white-noise generator when Color is set to White. The generated signal passes through a low-pass filter.

Brightness sets the filter's cutoff frequency. Resonance emphasizes frequencies near that cutoff.

Output requirements#

White noise does not require stereo channel separation. It works through headphones or speakers.

The connected output's frequency range affects which parts of the noise spectrum it can reproduce.
