Binaural Beats

How Soundwell creates binaural beats with separate tones in the left and right stereo channels.

Definition#

A binaural beat is a perceived rhythm created by playing two tones with slightly different frequencies, one in each ear. The beat rate is the difference between the two frequencies.

For example, a 100 Hz tone in the left channel and a 106 Hz tone in the right channel have a beat rate of 6 Hz.

How Soundwell generates it#

Soundwell generates two sine tones. The left channel uses the Base Tone frequency. The right channel uses the Base Tone frequency plus the Beat Rate.

The Binaural volume controls the level of both tones together.

Output requirements#

Binaural beats require stereo channel separation. Use stereo headphones so the left and right tones remain separate until they reach your ears.

Speakers mix both channels in the room and do not preserve the same binaural signal.
