Pink Noise
How Soundwell generates pink noise and shapes it with Brightness and Resonance.
Definition#
Pink noise is a random signal with equal power in each octave. Its power decreases as frequency rises.
An octave spans a doubling of frequency, such as 100 to 200 Hz or 200 to 400 Hz.
How Soundwell generates it#
Soundwell uses a pink-noise generator when Color is set to Pink. The generated signal passes through a low-pass filter.
Brightness sets the filter's cutoff frequency. Resonance emphasizes frequencies near that cutoff.
Output requirements#
Pink noise does not require stereo channel separation. It works through headphones or speakers.
The connected output's frequency range affects which parts of the noise spectrum it can reproduce.
