Overview
Glossary
Definitions for the terms used throughout Soundwell Studio.
B
- Base Tone
- The frequency used as the base for the two tones in a binaural beat.
- Bass Drone
- A continuous low-frequency tone generated by Soundwell.
- Beat Rate
- The frequency difference between the left and right tones in a binaural beat.
- Binaural Beat
- A perceived rhythmic beat created when a different tone is sent to each stereo channel.
- Brightness
- The cutoff frequency of the filter Soundwell applies to a noise source.
- Brown Noise
- Noise whose power decreases by about 6 decibels per octave as frequency increases.
C
- Channel Volume
- The volume control for one sound source in the current mix.
- Colored Noise
- Noise grouped by how its power is distributed across frequencies.
F
- Fade-out
- A gradual reduction in volume before playback stops at the end of a session timer.
I
- Isochronic Tone
- A single audible tone that turns on and off at a regular rate.
M
- Master Volume
- The volume control applied to the combined output of all sound sources.
- Modulation Depth
- The amount by which a bass drone changes in volume.
- Modulation Rate
- The rate at which a bass drone changes in volume.
N
- Noise
- A sound signal containing many frequencies rather than one repeating tone.
- Noise Color
- The White, Pink, or Brown setting used by the Noise sound source.
P
- Pink Noise
- Noise with equal power in each octave, so its power decreases as frequency increases.
- Pitch
- The frequency of the tone used by the bass drone.
- Preset
- A saved configuration of sound sources, parameters, and volume levels.
- Pulse Rate
- The number of isochronic tone pulses that occur each second.
- Pulse Shape
- The way an isochronic tone changes between the on and off parts of each pulse.
- Pulse Width
- The percentage of each Sharp isochronic pulse during which the tone remains on.
R
- Resonance
- The amount of emphasis the noise filter adds near its cutoff frequency.
S
- Sawtooth
- A waveform that rises or falls in a straight line before changing abruptly at the end of each cycle.
- Sine
- A smooth waveform containing one fundamental frequency.
- Smooth
- A Pulse Shape that changes the level of an isochronic tone with a continuous sine-shaped curve.
T
- Tone
- The audible frequency that Soundwell turns on and off to create an isochronic tone.
- Triangle
- A waveform that rises and falls in straight lines during each cycle.
W
- Waveform
- The repeating shape used to generate a sound signal.
- White Noise
- Noise with equal power at each frequency.
